The start of a new adventure.
Sunday 28th June

We finally drove out of the driveway at Gladesville a little later than was planned but were lucky to be leaving at all.
What on earth are you talking about you may be thinking?
Saturday night about 6pm after a massive day of running here there and everywhere I was happily organising last minute techo things with Sim, having a drink with Eli and Caitlan when the most unusual thing happened. I had a bit of a twinge in my knee and thought absolutely nothing of it BUT what unfolded was very mysterious. Within half an hour my knee had swollen up to twice its normal size(and that’s not petite) and I could hardly walk. There was no reason on earth other than old age for this to happen.
So after much deliberation on what to do headed to bed thinking this has to be better in the morning.
After no sleep I was at 1am on the lounge icing my knee for hours, 20 minutes on 20 off, thinking why has this happened as I believe everything happens for a reason.
Had I gone out in sympathy with Cath and her knee? Is this the right time to be travelling? You name it I thought it.
What to do so I rang Ron who deals with injury every day and asked for advise. As there didn’t seem to be any structural damage the conclusion was arthritis or gout in other words old age.
Well this old aged caper is for the birds.

So as I mentioned in the beginning after my long winded explanation we set off.
First stop – Wagga Wagga

Mez unfortunately has to drive as there is no way I could as I can hardly walk.
Icing constantly on the road
We travelled along the Hume Hwy, had our first stop for brekkie at Marulan a quiet country town. Looking forward to a coffee and maybe a toasted sandwich(not the best brekkie) but we were to say the least, disappointed with a bitter and cold coffee and the sandwich had a lot to be desired and at a cost of $24 for 2.
Quaint coffee cafe in a very foggy Marulan
So much for country cooking hoping it gets better!!
Arrived about 3.30 to Big4 caravan park, very neat and tidy. Headed to pub to watch the footy and back for an early night.

Monday 29th June
Woke up to a minus one degree morning with a beautiful frost covering.
Frost everywhere very beautiful landscape
One of the locals commented that although it was minus one it actually felt like minus four.
Headed to the shower at 7 and as Rogers always says it was FF. We were a sight to behold. I had on blue PJ’s with green thick socks, red thongs and a black husky jacket. Mez was a little better with green matching jacket and thongs but the red and white poker dot pj’s were to die for.
The picture of our return was even better.
Looking glamorous after shower. There was a picture of Mez but it was deleted on request.

Mez preparing Merryann for takeoff
Left Wagga and headed to Mildura.
What a day ahead of us – again Mez driving me icing. The land is so flat and all you can see for miles and miles are sheep and farmland mainly cotton that has been harvested.
Landscape doted with freshly baled cotton

The most amazing scenery is looking over the land and looking at the horizon that is not impeded just like when you view the horizon over the water. Vast expanses of nothingness.

This was such a hard drive, 8½ hrs for Mez and I couldn’t help but we got there.
Long straight cotton lined roads. Can't imagine what the Nullabor will be like.
Even the GPS had nothing to show but straight lines
Staying at Buronga Riverside Caravan Park and as it states from its name it is right on ‘The Mighty Murray’. It is so sad to see the remnants of once a majestic river where the boat jetties are left high and dry at least 5 metres from the present muddy water level below. Mildura is a lovely town and they would be missing their once beautiful river.

Tuesday 30th June
Headed into Mildura to have a look around found a very upmarket place for lunch. It is called the Mildura Brewery and they have created a restaurant in front of a working brewery, that you can view through massive glass walls, very impressive. All this is in an old once glamorous movie theatre transformed into this modern establishment but they have retained many of the old world features of this lovely building. If there go and have one of their many varied and interesting beers.
Mez meeting the locals

'Stand still guys need to send a pic home to Joan'

Had a relaxing arvo playing around with the selfie stick, Eli gave me for Mother’s day on my request.
Cheers

    1. Thanks Kev. We just pulled up in a one building town which happens to be a pub in a place called Glendambo just about 2hrs before you get to Cooper Pedy. Staying behind the pub tonight. Lucky to have a tiny bit of reception. xx
